Modern Irrigation concept:

HFDI (High Frequency Drip Irrigation) or Pulse Irrigation:

High Frequency Drip Irrigation means the fulfillment of water requirement of the plant in frequent pulses in order to match the plant water intake with the rate of evapo-transpiration by the plant. Water applied in short pulses takes place of the water transpired during the lag time (time between two successive pulses). This helps to maintain appropriate soil-water-air ratio, which results in "healthy development of the plant". The pulses are divided over a period of evapo-transpiration in day. Generally it is 6-10hours a day depending on season and climatic zones.

HFDI produces a constant water uptake from a restricted soil volume. Without constant recharge of nutrients to this soil volume, the nutrients around the roots will be depleted very fast.
