Sugarcane - Terna SSK, Osmanabad

The incessant drop in water table year after year lead to drought like situation in the region leading to large-scale reduction in the area under sugarcane. To tackle this situation, the Board of Directors of Terna Shetkari Co-operative Sugar factory Limited, Osmanabad (Maharashtra) executed a Pilot Project on sugarcane cultivation.

The Hydrogol drip irrigation project completed on area of 1500 Hectares (1st phase) at TSSK by Finolex Plasson Industries Ltd. Under drip irrigation, has helped farmers to save water to the extent of 50%-60%, reduce soil salinity and weed infestation and take up inter cropping with short duration crops like vegetables and pulses leading to overall increase in farm productivity and revenue.
